About the Laser Cut Box Generator
Design custom finger-joint boxes for laser cutting in one interactive tool.
Configure the size and joints, add lids, dividers or a raised bottom, edit
the model directly in 3D, preview the assembly and export ready-to-cut SVG
or DXF files.
How to Use
Choose millimeters or inches.
Select internal or external dimensions and choose an open or closed box.
Enter the width, height and depth, then set the measured material thickness.
Adjust the finger-joint width, press-fit bumps and kerf compensation as needed.
Use the buttons beside the 3D view to add dividers or one of the available lid types.
Click editable parts in the assembled model to resize cells and handles, remove divider segments or raise the bottom.
Rotate, pan and zoom the model, then move the Assembly Preview slider to inspect the complete flat layout.
Download the finished cutting plan as an SVG or DXF file.
Box Size and Construction
Work in millimeters or inches and enter either external or usable internal
dimensions. Choose an open box or a standard closed finger-joint box. The live
summary shows the calculated external size, internal size and usable volume.
Dimension sliders provide quick adjustments, while number fields allow precise values.
Interactive 3D Preview
Left-drag to rotate, right-drag to pan and scroll to zoom. Switch between day
and night appearance, view the finished assembly, or move the assembly slider
through the construction sequence to the complete cutting layout. Changes are
reflected immediately, and Ctrl/Cmd+Z restores the previous edit.
Lid Options
Add a removable lid, sliding lid, single-door lid or two-door lid. Each lid can
be previewed in its open and closed position. Where available, the model also
provides controls for the lower-piece corner radius, handle inclusion and handle
width. Only compatible lid and box combinations are enabled.
Dividers and Custom Cells
Add dividers across the width and depth, set their quantity, and optionally add
joints to the side walls or bottom. Divider positions can be dragged in the 3D
model. Click a cell to enter an exact width or depth and lock important cell sizes.
Individual divider segments can be removed to merge neighboring cells. The cutting
layout and wall or bottom slots update automatically.
Raised Bottom
Click the side edge of the bottom panel in the assembled model and drag it upward,
or enter an exact lift value in the popup editor. The generator recalculates usable
height and volume, shortens dividers where required, and creates the matching wall
slots and bottom joints in both export formats.
Material Thickness
Enter the actual measured thickness of your plywood, MDF, acrylic or
other sheet material. The real thickness may differ from the value
stated by the manufacturer.
Finger Joint Width
This setting controls the approximate width of the fingers around the
edges of each panel. The generator automatically adjusts the joint
pattern to fit the selected box dimensions.
Press-Fit Bumps
Press-fit bumps are small rounded protrusions added inside the joints.
They create extra friction between the parts and can help the box stay
assembled without glue.
Increase or decrease the bump diameter depending on your material,
machine accuracy and desired joint tightness.
Kerf Compensation
Kerf is the small amount of material removed by the laser beam during
cutting. Kerf compensation adjusts the cutting paths to improve the fit
between connected parts.
The correct kerf value depends on your laser machine, material, cutting
settings and focus.
SVG and DXF Export
SVG files are suitable for most laser cutting and vector design
software. DXF files can be used with compatible CAD, CAM and laser
cutting applications.
Before Cutting
Always measure your material and make a small test cut before cutting
the complete box. Slight differences in material thickness, kerf and
machine calibration can affect the final joint fit.
